travel times, sick times

Oh my gosh, hi. I bet you thought I was never going to show my face here again! It has been a little while! I am so happy to report that even though the last couple weeks have been crazy, I have still managed to take a picture of something everyday.

Last weekend Andrew and I (barely) managed to get away for a weekend. Just the two of us. To Vegas! It was something we had been looking forward to for months, and I say we barely managed to get away because Andrew was soooo sick right before we left. Hours before we were to leave for the airport I thought we were going to have to call the whole thing off. He managed to pull it together just in time.

The day before we left I snapped this one of my girl. Her hair looks so red here!

I am beginning to realize that I am the worst at taking photos when we are away. I think I had maybe 14 total pictures on my big camera from Vegas. Bad! Not a single photo of me from the trip that is in focus. Only a couple of Andrew and I together. On my phone. They are not good. I vow to do better at travel photos!

While in Vegas we stayed at the Venetian. That place is neat-o. I am so blessed to be able to say that I have been to the real Venice (twice!) and this place captures the feeling of the real city pretty closely. Just add the smell of fish.

Back home again in Indiana and now I start to feel sick. Not good.

Ada still loves the dishwasher. Now she likes to climb in. Baby girl is climbing everything now!

Max's big 6th birthday is coming up in May, so today we had a super short photo session to prep for his party. Can't believe he'll be 6!

There you have it. Twelve days fully accounted for! Thanks for stopping by--hope your week is off to a great start!

growing

Spring is here and the bulbs are blooming:

Today we took Max to kindergarten round up. Kindergarten. I think his little hands look so old in this picture. I don't even cringe anymore when he cracks the eggs. He's getting so good!

what Max has been up to

Max looks forward to the "Kiddie Tractor Pull" every year during our county's ag days. So cute! We signed Cora up to do it too, but at the last minute she chickened out. Next year maybe!

Oh my goodness. My mom was over yesterday helping me install these drawer pull out things in a set of my kitchen cabinets. (Life changing, those pull out drawers!) Anyway, they came packaged in styrofoam. Max made it snow all over the kitchen. This is when I try my best to remember what it was like being a kid, and how much fun it was to make messes. A terrible mess for sure, but way better for him than not making a mess and watching TV. I have to always remind myself of that...

The funniest thing about this was that some of the little styrofoam pieces went down in the register, and when it kicked on it snowed some more. Fun times.

look who got a new bonnet

I mentioned to my mom about how I loved bonnets for babies, but they are hard to find. I love how they tie nice and snug, and how they come down over the ears to keep the wind out. Plus they are cute, cute, cute.

Well, Mom happened to have a bonnet that I wore when I was a baby. She took it apart, made a new pattern, and voila:

Ada has a new bonnet. Thank you Mom, you're pretty much the bee's knees.

pretty good

Honey sandwiches + pretzels.
Watching the Backyardigans on my phone.
One in jammies.
Them together.

Life is pretty good.

monday, tuesday, wednesday

Monday:

Tuesday:

ISO 1600, 1/40, f2.5

Wednesday:

ISO 100, 1/800, f4.5

I love that last photo for a few reasons:
1. It was taken outside. Ahhh.
2. Max made a kite for Cora. She was running around with it.
3. The kids played outside today for a good hour--no fighting. A miracle.
4. It is vertical. I hardly ever take a vertical photo. Weird!

Hope you are enjoying the sunshine today! I think spring may finally be here!

hello hello

I'm here! I'm here! Our internet was all messed up for a few days thanks to our adorable dog, Coconut. She chewed through our telephone line cutting out our internet and phone. She's a peach. Now we're all up and running again! Here's a little of what we've been up to:

Easter correspondence. I'm trying to send more mail. Why? I love getting mail, therefore I feel the need to send mail:

My nieces! Besides my own children, these two girls are my favorite muses. Right before we took this picture Laci (the muses' mother) and I were wondering how photographers get those amazing sibling shots where the tiny newborn snoozes peacefully and a toddler cooperates and sits still. Who the heck knows. I know now. Pure and beautiful luck:

A little planning. My wonderful and adorable friend Lindsay and her sister/sidekick Lora came back to follow up on their first home decorating intervention. Not intervention. More like a decorating push. I am so blessed to have these two women in my life. Love you girls! Anyway, with their help, I am planning a little gallery grouping above our couch. So excited!

Easter time! A little cousin time/egg hunt at my Dad's:

More Easter baskets! Another egg hunt at Andrew's parents' house. So happy the sun was out!

Happy to have our internet back. I know why this photo-a-day project was so hard for me in the past: the key for me is staying on top of all the photos I take and picking my favorite one for each day the same day it is taken. Now I pick the photo, tweak it a little in Photoshop, blog it, and then put it in a folder on my computer's desktop labeled 365. I even change the name of each photo file to the date it was taken. (For example: march31.jpg.) No questions on what picture goes with what day. Just getting caught up on five days was difficult. Probably because I have three kids and my memory is limited to remembering to feed them lunch.

Priorities.
